TIPS OF USING MICROPIPETTE
1.Use a suitable pipette tip
Ensure that the pipetting volume is within 35-100% range of pipette tip for better accuracy and precision.
2. Installation of pipette tip
Insert the pipette socket into the pipette tip for desired sealing performance. DLab multi-way pipette has no O-ring but is equipped with a suction head with front stop, desirable sealing can be achieved just by pressing, indeed a benefit for multi-way pipette users.
3.Angle and depth of pipette tip immersion
Keep the immersion angle of pipette tip inclined within 20 degrees, preferably upright.
The suggested immersion depth of suction end is as follows:
Immersion depth of pipette tip
2µL and 10µL
20µL and 100µL
200µL and 1000µL
5000 and 10mL
4.Rinsing of pipette tip
Rinsing of pipette tip improves sample accuracy at room temperature but rinsing of pipette tip would reduce the operational accuracy at high/ low temperature samples and hence the users are therefore advised to pay attention.
5. Aspiration speed
Aspiration should be smooth with suitable suction speed, as high suction speed may cause the sample entry into the socket, thus damaging the piston and sealing ring resulting in cross contamination of sample.
6.Different pipetting modes
Forward pipetting (low-density solution):
1. Press the volume adjustment knob to first stopping point.
2. Slowly release the knob to the starting point to complete aspiration.
3. Press the knob gently again to its first stopping point to complete dispensing.
3. Wait for a moment, before continuing to press the button to the second stopping point to drain the liquid completely.
4. Release the knob back to starting point. If necessary, replace the pipette tip before continuing with pipetting.
Reverse pipetting (suitable for viscous liquid or volatile liquid):
1.Press the volume adjustment knob to second stopping point for aspiration.
2.Slowly release the button to the starting point to complete suction.
3.Aspirate more liquid than the set volume.
4.Gently press the knob to the first stopping point to dispense liquid of set volume.
5.Discard the residual liquid left in the pipette tip.
7.Advice on use of pipette
Hold the pipette in proper angle while pipetting and do not hold the pipette firmly all the time and use a pipette.
Use finger support comfortably and avoid repetitive strain injury/ fatigue.
Ensure to check the sealing ring performance very often and replace it once it is found leaking/ aged.
Ensure to calibrate the pipette atleast twice in a year depending on the frequency of use.
Most pipettes need lubrication of piston to keep their sealing performance after regular use.
But for pipette with conventional range, desirable sealing performance is ensured even if no lubricant is applied.
